Solicitor General Jose Calida on Monday confronted a reporter of ABS-CBN, just minutes after filing a quo warranto petition before the Supreme Court to revoke the network's franchise.

Mike Navallo, who covers the justice beat, approached Calida with other journalists to ask for a copy of the quo warranto petition against the network.

"You're a lawyer? You're from Cagayan de Oro?" Calida asked the reporter.

"Surigao, why sir?" Navallo asked.

"Because I'm also from Mindanao," Calida said, who is from Davao City.

Calida later told Navallo: "Lagi mo akong binabanatan. Abogado ka rin pala e."

(You always criticize me. You're a lawyer, too.)

"Sir, I'm just doing my job. It's part of the story," the reporter told the official.

"Practice ka na lang, baka magkita tayo sa court," Calida replied.

(Just practice, we might see each other in court.)

Navallo reported exclusively last year that despite Malacañang's denial, Calida's office was involved in drafting the affidavit of a certain Peter Joemel Advincula alias Bikoy, who accused members of the opposition of sedition.

In his quo warranto petition, Calida on Monday cited supposed "abuses" in ABS-CBN’s franchise which will expire in March. The House of Representatives has yet to hear several bills seeking to renew the company's license to operate.
