MANILA — (UPDATE) A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck Pangasinan Wednesday night, Phivolcs said.

The tectonic quake, which was earlier reported to be a magnitude 5.6 tremor, struck at 6:25 p.m. and has a depth of 137 kilometers.

Its epicenter was located 6 kilometers southeast of Aguilar town.

Intensity 5, which may feel like a strong shaking and rocking and may cause hanging objects to swing violently, was felt in the town of Villasis.

Intensity 4, which may feel like the passing of a heavy truck and may cause hanging objects to swing considerably, was felt in Baguio City.

Intensity 2, which can cause hanging objects to swing slightly, was felt in Subic, Zambales, Pasay City, Manila City, Mandaluyong City, and Quezon City.

The following instrumental intensities were meanwhile reported in these areas:

Intensity III - Olongapo City and Dagupan City, Pangasinan
Intensity II - Malolos, Bulacan, Guagua Pampanga, Gapan City and Baguio City
Intensity I - Laoag City, Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, Sinait, Ilocos Sur and San Ildefonso, Bulacan

Aftershocks are expected, Phivolcs said.
