MAYNILA -- Sa sesyon ngayong Miyerkoles sa Senado, hiniling ni Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel na baguhin ang referral sa panukalang batas na bubuo ng Maharlika Investment Fund.

Noong Lunes, ini-refer ang panukala sa Committee on Banks, Financial Institutions and Currencies.

Pero sabi ni Pimentel, hindi dapat dito ini-refer ang panukala sa Committee on Government Corporations and Public Enterprises na pinamumunuan ni Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano.

"Undoubtedly the 2 bills create a GOCC but it does not create a bank, it is not about currency... If we look at the definition of financial institution that is an institution under the supervision of BSP. Those bills are better referred to committee on government corporations and public enterprises because they no doubt seek to establish a government corporation," paliwanag ni Pimentel.

Sabi naman ni Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, nang talakayin ang panukala sa Kamara ay ang Committee on Banks and Financial Institutions din ang duminig.

"What is being established here is a financial institution of government, therefore on the face of it all, it seems more appropriate in the committee on Banks and Financial Institutions," ani Zubiri.

Giit naman ni Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva, malinaw na nasa mandato ng committee on banks ang pagdinig sa nasabing panukala.

Upang matapos ang usapan ay nagbotohan ang mga senador sa nais ni Pimentel.

Dalawa lang ang boto na pumabor kay Pimentel, 19 ang tumutol, at nag-abstain naman si Sen. Pia Cayetano.

Dahil dito, ang Committee on Banks, Financial Institutions and Currencies na pinamumunuan ni Sen. Mark Villar pa rin ang didinig at bubusisi sa panukalang Maharlika Investment Fund.
