MANILA- A Muntinlupa court has scheduled the formal trial of detained Senator Leila de Lima's drug case on Feb. 15.

This, after the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court Branch 205 concluded on Wednesday the pre-trial conference for the case.

Lawyer Filibon Tacardon, counsel for De Lima, said 41 witnesses will be presented by prosecutors during the hearing including former Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) director Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa.

The case against De Lima was filed by the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) in 2017 over her alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade in the national penitentiary during her stint as justice chief.

De Lima has denied the allegation and dismissed it as "political persecution." She has been detained at the Custodial Center in Camp Crame since 2017.
