Datu Montawal in Maguindanao now under state of calamity

MAGUINDANAO — Datu Montawal municipality in Maguindanao has declared a state of calamity in 11 villages due to flooding brought about by continuous rains and overflowing rivers.

The flood level is knee-high in low-lying barangays.

Besides public schools and residential areas, floodwater has spilled onto the national highway, and corn and rice fields.

The affected residents refused to leave their homes and intend to put up tents along the highway.

Food packs have been prepared for distribution to the 6,200 families affected in 11 barangays.

Meanwhile, floodwater has already seeped into the municipal hall of Pagalungan, Maguindanao.

More than 5,200 families have been affected in 12 barangays.
