MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed a retired policeman to the board of the state-run lottery agency and reappointed the chairman of the Commission on Elections, official documents released on Wednesday showed.

Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office board member Anselmo Simeon Patron Pinili will take over from Jorge Corpuz, who resigned last week citing health reasons.

The President reappointed Comelec Chairman Sheriff Abas since the Commission on Appointments failed to act on his nomination before it went on break late last year, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said.

Abas was first appointed to the post last November. He replaced ex-chairman Andres Bautista, who had a public falling-out with his wife.

Pinili, who was assigned to the Davao police, will serve the unexpired term of Corpuz, which will end on June 30. The ex-policeman was previously the President's special envoy on transnational crime.

Pinili will join the PCSO as its general manager, Alexander Balutan, and board member, Sandra Cam, publicly trade allegations of misconduct.
