MANILA—The Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) on Thursday said it temporarily won't be delivering and accepting mail in Batangas towns near Taal Volcano.

The postal operator said it will suspend operations in Agoncillo, Laurel, Lemery, San Nicolas, Taal, Talisay and others within the danger zone.

Based on the latest report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), nearly 44,000 people in these towns have sought shelter in evacuation centers following Taal's eruption. The governor of Batangas, however, said the actual number of displaced residents is in the hundreds of thousands.

Taal's eruption earlier caused flight cancellations at Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The PHLPost said this led to suspension of work at its main hub in Pasay City, affecting international and provincial operations and causing delays.

The company will announce when it resumes operations.
