Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island is at normal level, or under alert level 0, amid rumors swirling in social media that extraordinary seismic activity was recently recorded from the volcano.

Phivolcs science research specialist Mari-Andylene Quintia said steam or smoke emission from Kanlaon is normal.

"Kanlaon has its own hydrothermal system. It has its own water, so it can emit steam. This a normal activity for the volcano," she told ABS-CBN News.

Posts about Mt. Kanlaon supposedly emitting above-normal smoke and steam have been making rounds in social media.

Past photos of Kanlaon eruptions were also being passed online as recent pictures of the volcano, amid the continuous ashfall being spewed by the Taal Volcano, which erupted Sunday and prompted mass evacuations in its vicinity.

Quintia called on the public to stop reading and sharing false news about Kanlaon.
