MANILA - Manila-bound passengers have been stranded in airports in different parts of the country after the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) was shut down because of safety concerns following Taal Volcano's ash explosion.

Stranded passengers at the Iloilo International Airport had no choice but to go back home after their flights to Manila were canceled.

Some of them were already at the airport when they heard of their flight cancellation.

Hundreds of passengers were also stranded at the Davao International Airport after 8 flights to Manila were canceled Sunday night.

Passengers were also stranded at the Bacolod-Silay International Airport as two flights to Manila have been canceled.

Some passengers are still staying at the airport hoping that normal operations will resume soon, while others opted to have their flights rebooked.

The airport shutdowns follow the raising of the alert level 4 over Taal volcano, which means that a hazardous eruption could happen within hours or days.

The Manila International Airport Authority has advised airline passengers not to proceed to the airport and instead coordinate with their respective airlines for flight updates.
