Magnitude-5 earthquake hits Davao Occidental

MANILA—A magnitude-5 earthquake struck off the southeast area of Sarangani town in Davao Occidental on Saturday night.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor happened at 9:52 p.m.

Phivolcs located the epicenter of the quake at 201 kilometers southeast of Sarangani town.

The quake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of 59 kilometers, according to the agency.

The tremor is not expected to trigger aftershocks nor damage.
