MANILA—The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has said it will redesign the taxpayer identification number (TIN) card as it warned the public against social media postings offering assistance for getting the government ID.

This after the agency noted the "rampant" selling of fake TIN cards through social media and fixers.

In an advisory, the BIR said TIN cards are not for sale and are only released by the agency.

"TIN cards issued/released by individuals or persons are considered illegal and fraudulent."

"Furthermore, please be reminded also not to transact TIN matters with unauthorized BIR personnel, non-BIR personnel or through unofficial online sites."

In its Revenue Memorandum Order No. 2-2019, the agency said the redesigned TIN card will also serve as an "accountable form" that will bear a sequential serial number for control and accountability of the concerned BIR Office and personnel.
