MANILA - Classes in the province of Camarines Sur and the city of Naga were suspended until Friday due to the damage caused by Christmas storm Usman, local executives said Wednesday.

The suspension in Camarines Sur was done to "ensure the safety of everyone, especially of school children, and to give more time to their families to recover from the recent typhoon," Gov. Miguel Luis Villafuerte said.

Classes will resume in both areas on January 7. Both Camarines Sur and Naga are under a state of calamity.

In Naga, some school campuses and barangays have yet to be cleaned up and some are still flooded due to abnormally high water levels at the Bicol and Naga Rivers, said Mayor John Bongat.
