Estimated 200-year-old sea turtle rescued in Cebu City 1An estimated 200-year-old sea turtle was found by fishermen of Barangay San Nicolas Basak in Cebu City, Tuesday.

The sea turtle weighed more than 50 kilos and was also estimated to be three feet long. It took three fishermen to carry it from the sea to the barangay hall.

San Nicolas Basak Barangay Chairman George Rama said that it is the first time that they have recovered a sea turtle in their area. He also said that it is also the first time in Cebu City that such a huge sea turtle was found.

Fisherman Melfred Toring said that the sea turtle was found inside a fish pen.

Another fisherman, Moreno Tradeo, said that they decided to take it out from the sea when they saw that the sea turtle was already weak.

Dr. Pilar Romero, a veterinarian, said that the sea turtle must have been brought to the shore by the changing tides possibly due to planetary conjunction last Monday night.

“Were you able to observe last Monday night that the moon and planets Jupiter and Venus were forming like a triangle? That must have caused some changes in the sea that brought the sea turtle here,” Romero said.

Romero found no wounds from the sea turtle but was observed that it was traumatized. The sea turtle was later on brought to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources for possible treatment.
