MANILA, Philippines – Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has apologized to court sheriff Abe Andres for mauling him during a demolition incident last year.
In a press conference held Thursday morning, Duterte publicly apologized to Andres and his family for punching the sheriff repeatedly in the face last July 1, 2011.
The incident stemmed from a demolition order served by Andres that would destroy shanties of 500 families in Barangay Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr. Suliman, Agdao.
Duterte said she ordered Andres to postpone the demolition but she was ignored.
Andres earlier apologized to the mayor and decided not to press charges against her.
The mayor said she hopes the issue would be laid to rest. -- Report from Adroel Alcober, ABS-CBN News Davao
