BATANGAS, Philippines - Former Batangas Governor Armando Sanchez was rushed to the hospital Monday afternoon after collapsing from an apparent heat stroke.

Sanchez, who is running against incumbent Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos-Recto, was rushed to the Mary Mediatrix Center, after he fell unconscious while in a meeting at the LADECO feedmill company in Lipa, Batangas at around noon.

As of posting, he was still at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Mary Mediatrix Center.

Security was tight at the hospital, and journalists were not allowed to enter.

Only relatives of Sanchez were allowed inside the hospital.

The family has refused to issue a statement on the medical status of Sanchez.

Sanchez is running under the Nacionalista Party, while Santos, a former Lakas-CMD stalwart, is now running for reelection under the opposition Liberal Party.

Lawyer Ferdie Topacio, a lawyer of Sanchez, told dzMM Sanchez suffered from heat stroke and was already resting.

He quoted Sanchez's physician that a medical bulletin would soon be issued. -- reports from Sarita Kare, ABS-CBN Batangas; dzMM
