Rep. 'Aping' Yap succumbs to cancer

MANILA, Philippines -Incumbent Congressman Jose 'Aping' V. Yap Sr. of the 2nd district of Tarlac succumbed to complications due to prostate cancer early Tuesday morning.

Yap, 81, was a three-term Tarlac governor from 1998 to 2007. He was a former peace negotiator with the National Democratic Front (NDF).

Yap also served as congressman of the 2nd district of Tarlac from 1965 to 1972, and from 1987 to 1998.

During the Aquino administration, he was administrator of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) from 1986 to 1987.

Yap's remains lie in state at Della Strada Parish in Quezon City. His body will be brought to Congress and then finally to his hometown in Victoria, Tarlac.

He will be laid to rest on Sunday, March 7.
