10 million signatures eyed vs Palawan mining

MANILA, Philippines - ABS-CBN Foundation-Bantay Kalikasan and partners will seek at least 10 million signatures to support the call to stop all forms of small- and large-scale commercial mining in Palawan.

The campaign will also urge the government to enact either legislation or a proclamation banning mining in the island-province

The campaign, which will start on February 3, will also serve as the formal launch of the Save the Palawan Movement, composed of environmental organizations, civil society groups, professionals, and other individuals supporting the call against mining in Palawan.

The signature campaign and the Save the Palawan Movement are being led by ABS-CBN Foundation managing director Gina Lopez,    Palawan Mayor Edward Hagedorn, Fr. Robert Reyes, Kalikasan People’s Network for the Environment’s Clemente Bautista, Philippine Tropical Forest Conservation Foundation’s Atty. Jose Andres Canivel, and Rhodora Angela Ferrer, executive director of the Catholica Educational Association of the Philippines.
