MANILA - Dahlia Pastor, wife of slain race car driver Enzo Pastor and a suspect in his killing, is still in the Philippines and has not fled to Indonesia, according to her lawyer.
Atty. Ruy Rondain said he last spoke to his client on the phone last week but that he does not know her exact whereabouts.
"I have no reason to assume that she has left the jurisdiction. The Secretary of Justice herself often said she has not exited and has every reason to believe she is still here," Rondain told ANC's Top Story.
He noted that when he filed a petition for certiorari, Dahlia swore to the statement in Davao "a couple of months ago."
He said he was not present when Dahlia swore to the statement.
Dahlia has yet to surface after being implicated in Pastor's killing last year. A gunman earlier confessed he was paid P100,000 to kill Pastor but he later recanted.
On Thursday, agents of the National Bureau of Investigation arrested businessman Domingo "Sandy" De Guzman in a hotel room in Barangay Bucal, Sampaloc II in Dasmariñas, Cavite. De Guzman has been identified as the alleged paramour of Enzo's wife.
The criminal complaint alleged that De Guzman and Dahlia masterminded Enzo's killing after the latter found about their affair.
In the interview, Rondain said he has asked his client if she wants to "face the music."
However, he said Dahlia still believes that "Enzo's real killers are still out there."
"She fears for her personal safety," he said.
He added that imprisoning an innocent person would be a failure of the law. The lawyer has already questioned the issuance of an arrest order for Dahlia.
He said Dahlia could be imprisoned for a year while the case drags on even though she is innocent.
He added he expects Dahlia to surface "when she is given a fair shake."
