After super typhoon Yolanda wreaked havoc in central Philippines, thousands of residents, particularly those in Leyte and Samar, fled the affected provinces and cities. Lack of food, water and shelter drove many victims to seek refuge with relatives in Cebu and Manila.

Now flying daily in and out of Tacloban airport are Philippine C-130s and U.S. MV-22 aircraft carrying relief goods to the city and flying out evacuees. As of November 18, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) says the total number of typhoon victims at Villamor Air Base is 4,000, with total number of families at over 1,000.
