USS George Washington in Manila for goodwill visit

MANILA - US Navy aircraft carrier USS George Washington arrived Tuesday morning in Manila for a 4-day goodwill visit.

The USS George Washington, part of the US Navy's 7th Fleet, arrived in Manila Tuesday morning and is docked at the Manila Harbor for a four-day goodwill visit.

During the visit, some of its 6,000-strong crew, headed by Capt. David Lausman USN, will participate in community development projects, a 10-barangay outreach program, sports events, and various other humanitarian pursuits.

The head of the US delegation, Rear Admiral Kevin Donegan USN, paid a courtesy call to Vice Admiral Ferdinand Golez, flag officer-in-command of the Philippine Navy.

Donegan said they are willing to divert some of their missions and their assistance to areas recently devastated by Typhoon Kiko (international code name Morakot).

Donegan also stated the US Navy's continued commitment and cooperation in the fight against terrorism. With a report from Jay Ruiz, ABS-CBN News
