EDSA overloaded

What ails EDSA? Why is traffic on EDSA such a glacial mess? Is it the unfinished DPWH projects? Unruly bus drivers? Crossing pedestrians or MRT breakdowns?

According to MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino, there's a reason why EDSA traffic is so horrible: there are just too many vehicles.

EDSA is packed bumper to bumper with cars, trucks, buses, motorbikes and even the occasional wandering tricycle.

He told ANC that EDSA's average daily capacity is 160,000 vehicles for both lanes but the average number of vehicles passing the thoroughfare is easily triple that number.
