MANILA - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday conducted declogging operations along main thoroughfares following yesterday's flooding that caused heavy traffic in the metropolis.

The declogging operations were done along EDSA, Quezon Avenue, Congressional Avenue, Quirino Highway, C-5, Pasong Tamo and España.

The MMDA said aside from the heavy rains that fell on Thursday, the ongoing drainage improvement and road construction in some of these areas contributed to the floods.

MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino warned last night's monstrous traffic situation could be the norm this rainy season.

"Mag-rely tayo sa advise ng PAGASA. Pag sinabing may thunderstorm, i-adjust na rin natin yung schedule natin," he said.

"Six months ago ko pa sinabi yung lifestyle adjustment, kasi magkaka-traffic tayo dahil dun sa mga major road construction," he added. -- Report from Maan Macapagal, ABS-CBN News; ANC
