PNP Director General Ricardo Marquez is retiring early on June 28.

MANILA - The position of the Philippine National Police (PNP) chief will be vacant soon.

Outgoing PNP Director General Ricardo Marquez has opted for early retirement on June 28, exactly two months before his scheduled retirement on August 28.

PNP Directorial Staff chief Deputy Director General Francisco Uyami, the current number 4 man in the PNP, may serve as officer-in-charge before the next PNP head Chief Superintendent Ronald dela Rosa assumes his post. [LINK: Ronald dela Rosa http://news.abs-cbn.com/list/tag/ronald-dela-rosa ]

Another high-ranking PNP official, deputy chief for operations Deputy Director General Danilo Constantino, will also retire early on Friday, June 24, instead of July 2, to give way to the incoming PNP chief.

Meanwhile, the PNP has not filled the number 2 position, deputy chief for administration, since Deputy Director General Marcelo Garbo retired last March.

Marquez and Constantino belong to PMA Class '82 while Dela Rosa belongs to PMA Class '86.

Only 11 members of PMA Class 82 remain active in the service, the youngest being Uyami.
