MANILA, Philippines - House Speaker Sonny Belmonte has created a committee to review the statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALNs) of congressmen and employees of the House of Representatives.
The Review and Compliance Committee will also formulate the rules for its release to the public.
In Special Order 05-12, Belmonte appointed Erico Aumentado as chairman of the committee, with Giorgidi Aggabao, Tomas Apacible, Rodolfo Antonino and Rufus Rodriguez as members.
The committee will determined whether the SALNs are submitted on time, complete and in the proper form. If not, the committee will inform the individual concerned to make the necessary correction.
It will also render any opinion interpreting the SALN provision of Republic ACT 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, subject to the approval of the plenary.
Belmonte signed the order creating the committee on June 18, 2012.
The creation of the SALN committee is the Lower House's response after it was pressed to make public the SALNs of congressmen following the impeachment of Chief Justice Renato Corona.
Corona was impeached and removed by the Senate from office for failing to declare foreign currency assets in his SALN.
