MANILA -- The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) on Wednesday urged all pet owners and animal lovers to help each other safely evacuate with their pets.

Floods and nonstop rain are still being brought on by Typhoon Carina. Noting the danger that these could pose to animals, PAWS reminds the public to remove them from the flooded area; and if they can't bring their pets along in their evacuation, they should at least open or unchain the cages to give the animals a better chance of surviving.

- Have your evacuation plan ready. Have your emergency go kit ready with essentials like their food, water, first aid items, and medical records, and know how and where you can transport your pets.
- Be resourceful. If you lack crates or cages for transport, use everyday items like laundry baskets or basins as makeshift carriers.
- Never leave them behind. Abandoning your pets should only ever be your last resort. If you absolutely cannot evacuate with them for whatever compelling reason, it is vital that you uncage and unchain them to give them a fighting chance.
