The Philippines is set to promote the country’s gastronomy and food culture as it hosts the first UN Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Asia and the Pacific in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu on Wednesday.

The inaugural forum will serve as a platform to celebrate the power of gastronomy tourism, driven by the growing interest in food among travelers seeking authentic experiences, as well as the substantial opportunities it presents for sustainable socio-economic development, cultural exchange, and community well-being, according to the UN Tourism.

The Department of Tourism has enlisted seasoned and up-and-coming talented chefs from various regions to showcase the best of Filipino food and ingredients during the regional launch.

In coordination with the Provincial Government of Cebu, delegates will have a chance to experience technical tours in the Camotes Islands, culture and gastronomy tours in Argao and Dalaguete, as well as Bojo in Aloguinsan.

The DOT hopes the success of the forum would be a catalyst for the country as a preferred culinary haven for travelers and gastronomy tourism destination and be a platform for Philippine cuisine to be globally relevant.
