Helen Mirren, Kylie Minogue, Viola Davis, Shania Twain, and German-Iranian stand-up comedian Enissa Amani have been named "Barbie Role Models" by U.S. toymaker Mattel, ahead of International Women's Day on March 8.

In total, eight women around the globe "who are shaping the future through their inspiring stories" have each received a look-alike Barbie to celebrate the doll's 65th birthday.

Actor Helen Mirren has added the honour of UK Barbie Role Model to her "top list of fantastic achievements": Becoming a Dame of the British Empire, having an Oscar, having a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and having a Barbie.

"I am absolutely blown away by my Barbie," Mirren said upon receiving her Barbie.

"The intricacy and the beauty of the detail is extraordinary."

Australian Role Model Barbie went to singer Kylie Minogue, who worked closely with Mattel to create her one-of-a-kind doll in a red outfit inspired by the custom Mugler look from her Grammy Award-winning song, "Padam Padam".

Comedian Enissa Amani was named German Barbie Role Model in recognition of her career in stand-up and her human rights activism.

"To get your own Barbie doll and then to be recognised internationally, along with such outstanding women, with such big names," she said. "I never thought my name would be there for Germany. It's unbelievable."

Barbies come in 35 skin tones, 97 hairstyles, and nine body types, including dolls with wheelchairs, Down Syndrome, vitiligo, and plus-sizes as well as gender-neutral dolls.

According to Mattel's senior vice president and head doll designer Kim Culmone, Barbie's secret is that she reflects the world that people see around them.

"Barbie's key to success is that she evolves, and is true to her purpose to inspire limitless potential and everyone that loves her, especially girls, who need role models and examples of absolutely going for their dreams."
