MANILA — Popular restaurant Cafe Via Mare at Greenbelt 1 mall in Makati will close its doors by the end of the month.

In a Facebook post, Via Mare said the closure is a "consequence of the impending demolition of the iconic Greenbelt 1 building."

"With a mixture of emotions, we share bittersweet news: Cafe Via Mare in Greenbelt 1 will close its doors for the last time on March 31," it said.

"This location holds a special place in our hearts as the birthplace of the first Cafe Via Mare," it added. "Since the 80s, it has been a beacon of Filipino culinary excellence, pioneering the concept of a truly Filipino cafe and offering beloved dishes like Bibingka, Puto-Bumbong, Pancit Luglog, and Dinuguan."

Following the closure, Cafe Via Mare will move to a new home in Greenbelt 5. And while saying goodbye to the old branch brings "profound sadness," the restaurant is looking forward to creating "new memories" with customers.

"Thank you once again for your unwavering love and support at our Greenbelt 1 location. Here's to honoring the past, embracing the present, and looking forward to the future of Via Mare," it said.
