MANILA -- Model-beauty queen Maria Gigante of Cebu has been appointed as the official candidate for the Universal Woman beauty pageant 2024. 

ALV Pageant Circle confirmed the development on Tuesday. The pageant will take place in Cambodia this March.

"Maria Gigante is an extraordinary woman who possesses grace, intelligence, and a compassionate heart. Her beauty shines from within, radiating kindness and empowerment. Maria Gigante is a shining example of what it means to be a Universal Woman," ALV Pageant Circle said in its social media post.

Based on the pageant website, the Universal Woman organization aims "to introduce the unique brilliance and beauty of women and aiming a positive impact in the world today."

In 2016, Gigante first competed at a national pageant as one of the candidates of Binibining Pilipinas, before a stint in Miss World Philippines 2022. 

Valentina Sanchez Trivella of Venezuela is the reigning Universal Woman.
