In a rare moment, Broadway star and “The Voice of the Philippines” judge Lea Salonga joined Rachelle Ann Go for a special performance of the song "The Movie in My Mind" during the 25 anniversary gala celebration of “Miss Saigon” last Monday in London.
Salonga played Kim when the musical had its world premiere in 1989 in the West End, while Go is part of the 2014 revival of “Miss Saigon,” playing the role of the head bar girl Gigi.
Salonga, along with original cast members Simon Bowman and Jonathan Pryce surprised the audience at the Prince Edward Theatre in London when they appeared on stage at the close of the regular "Miss Saigon" show.
“I am still overwhelmed! Last night was just phenomenal. I still could not believe I was part of the 25th anniversary of ‘Miss Saigon.’ God is amazing! Thank You,” Go wrote on her Facebook page after the show.
“To Ms. Lea Salonga, who asked me 2 years ago if I was going to audition for ‘Miss Saigon,’ salamat po... I didn't imagine we are going to share a West End stage. Haaay... You are an inspiration. I will forever be grateful to all the people who helped me reach my dreams. Yes, dreams do come true,” the former Kapamilya talent added.
The gala performance will be broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on October 3.
