MANILA -- Monster trucks, dirt bikes and several all-terrain vehicles (ATV) wowed the crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena with mind-boggling stunts and loud screaming engines at the Monster Jam Manila, which opened on Saturday.

Eight gigantic trucks, led by the world-famous “Grave Digger,” revved their way around the Arena, spewing dirt, ear-splitting engine sounds and jaw-dropping maneuvers enough to give you an adrenaline rush.

The trucks raced against each other in the show and did wheelies (front wheels coming off the ground) using the enormous dirt mound at the center of the arena. The drivers also did a “donut competition” wherein they maneuver their trucks to spin circles in one spot on the floor.

Among the trucks that participated in this year’s Monster Jam are the iconic “Grave Digger,” the “Monster-D,” which looked like the Legion of Doom’s official ride with all the spikes, the fire breathing “Dragon,” the glow in the dark “Alien Invasion,” the “Pirate’s Curse” complete with sword, hook and dagger, and the state of the art “Hot Wheels Firestorm.”

There are also two trucks operated by women drivers and both of them bear lovable themes: The “Scooby Doo” and the “Monster Mutt Dalmatian” trucks.

Most of these trucks are powered by Merlin engines with displacements up to 575 cubic inches which generates up to 1,400 horse power. They also have 5-foot-6 high and 3-foot-6 wide tires and lots of suspensions to handle all the jumps and tricks they need to do on the track.

In between segments, there were also races between the ATVs and free style moto stunt exhibitions that had the crowd screaming.

The best part of the show was the free style competition between the monster trucks where each driver showed off their maneuvering skills, doing slap wheelies and performing other tricks using the lone dirt obstacle at the center.

In the end, Adam Anderson’s "Grave Digger" took the crown after compiling 39 points and bested the other truck drivers.
