ILOCOS SUR - A restaurant in Caoayan, Ilocos Sur has a new version of the empanada.

The idea came to cook Salvador Camanga after he noticed that tourists usually order poqui poqui, a native Ilocano dish made of eggplant, from their restaurant.

"Ang bestseller po kasi namin sa meals, lalo na sa boodle fight, hinahanap nila 'yung poqui poqui. So why not sa pang-merienda naman?" Camanga said.

Priced at P50, the poqui poqui empanada is filled with mashed eggplant, egg, cabbage and the famous Vigan longganisa.

The restaurant has been selling the empanada since April and it has become a hit among customers.
