MANILA - Bad breath may seem like a simple oral problem. But according to an expert, it can be a symptoms of other more serious conditions.
Dr. Ramon Carpio, a gastroenterologist and hepatologist, said bad breath can be a symptom of more serious medical conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) as well as kidney and liver problems.
GERD is a condition where the acid from the stomach goes back up to the esophagus.
Patients suffering from liver cirrhosis or any other liver and kidney problems also tend to suffer from "liver breath."
Other causes of bad breath include smoking, excessive drinking, and dehydration.
