MANILA, Philippines – For fragrance entrepreneur Joel Cruz, P7 million is a small price to pay for an opportunity to become a father.

This is the amount that Cruz spent to have his twins – Prince Sean and Princess Synne – conceived through in vitro fertilization and subsequently carried by a Russian mother. This also includes papers showing that he has the exclusive right over the two children.

While he has achieved a level of success that most people could only dream of, Cruz felt that he was still looking for something – that, he realized, is to know what if feels like to be a father, to have his own flesh and blood.

“Ten years ago pa kasi, hindi ko alam ‘yung responsibilities as a father,” the openly gay multi-millionaire said in an interview aired on “Rated K” on Sunday.

“’Yung talagang excited na excited ka makita ‘yung mga babies tapos nakita mo na,” he happily shared. “Kamukha ko sila, parang confirmed ‘yung anak mo talaga.”

Princess Sean and Princess Synne were born in Russia in September 4 last year. They have the physical features not only of Cruz but also of their mother, who was described as a tall Russian national who “looks like Julia Roberts.”

Along with their baptism is the blessing of Cruz’s palace-like mansion, where the twins will be staying.

Now that he has children that he can call his own, Cruz hopes that the twins will soon take over his businesses, Aficionado Germany Perfume, Joel Cruz Signatures and AFSS-Aficionado Apparel.

But more importantly, the fragrance entrepreneur is praying that they will continue the charitable work he has started.

Cruz’s charity work has been recognized by various organizations, most recently at the 10th Annual Gawad Amerika Awards in November, where he received the Gawad Amerika Award 2012 for Philanthropy.

“Dumating kasi sa point na dumami na ‘yung charitable institutions na tinutulungan ko,” he said. “Gusto kong may magtuloy nito.”

For now, Cruz said he will savor every moment with Prince Sean and Princess Synne, and will try to give as much as he could to them.
