MANILA – Former beauty queen Shamcey Supsup is set to lead an organization that will send the country’s representatives to future editions of the Miss Universe pageant.

On Monday, Miss Universe Philippines (MUP) announced on Facebook that Supsup will serve as the organization’s national director.

She joins other familiar names in the local pageant scene such as Albert Andrada (design council head) and Jonas Gaffud (creative director), as well as Lia Ramos (head of women empowerment committee and charity), Atty. Nad Bronce (head of legal affairs), and Mario Garcia (business development/marketing head).

“The Miss Universe Organization is thrilled to announce its partnership with the Miss Universe Philippines Organization – a fresh team that will lead the country towards its continued quest to share the beauty and grace of the Filipina to the rest of the world,” the post on MUP Facebook page read.

“Rooted in the same strong foundations that have earned the country title after title in the past half century, the Miss Universe Philippines Organization is poised to bring the Miss Universe franchise to greater heights,” it added.

Supsup previously competed in Miss Universe 2011, finishing third runner-up to Leila Lopes of Angola.

A licensed architect, she graduated magna cum laude from the University of the Philippines-Diliman and topped the 2010 Architect Licensure Examination.

Supsup is also a host and co-owner of the Filipino restaurant Pedro ‘N Coi and the revived '80s classic Scott Burger.

MUP THANKS ARANETA, BPCI

MUP also took the opportunity to thank the Araneta Group and Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) “for their more than 50 years of stewardship of the Miss Universe brand and franchise in the Philippines.”

“The foundation and fundamentals of Philippine pageantry are known worldwide to be solid and shall endure all because of the hard work and commitment of the Araneta Group and BPCI,” the organization said.

The announcement came just hours after Gazini Ganados finished in the Top 20 of the Miss Universe 2019 pageant in Atlanta, Georgia. The Philippine representative also won best in national costume.
