LA UNION – A luxury resort in San Fernando, La Union has added two new attractions to lure in adventure seekers who are looking to find their next travel destination.

Thunderbird at Poro Point is now just a half day drive from Metro Manila, but a visit here is almost like a trip around the world.

For starters, the resort bills itself as the Santorini of Asia. It takes inspiration from the famed Greek resort island with its white and blue architecture. Thanks to its scenic view and Mediterranean-inspired exteriors, every corner of the sprawling hotel poses a photo opportunity for that enviable Instagram feed.

And recently, two more spots that took cues from international destinations have been opened to the public.

It’s an image that anyone who has traveled to California would instantly recognize: a large-scale assemblage of restored street lamps that fronts Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).

Now, a similar installation has found its home in an area of Thunderbird resort. It’s a smaller version of the Urban Light public art but is nonetheless Instagram-worthy like the original display.

LED ROSE GARDEN

It’s an imitation of an imitation. A part of the La Union resort hotel is now aglow with thousands of artificial roses. The man-made rose garden is now one of the main draws for visitors especially at night.

But while it’s pretty, the electronic flower patch is not a fresh concept. Last year, 10,000 Roses Café opened shop in Cebu with the same feature. And even that was only copied from the more popular and permanent exhibit of 25,000 LED roses at Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul, South Korea.

Not that it really matters for Instagrammers. Original or not, the new displays offer a great backdrop.
