Upon learning of Celdran’s passing, Mercado took to Facebook on Wednesday to recall how he was entrusted to do the cultural activist’s Intramuros tours “when he needed to take a break or when it was a private tour group that he didn’t want to offend.”

“We lost so much when he left Manila last year. But it was about time he took care of himself and live in a more sensible place that maybe would have celebrated him more. It broke his heart to leave, but I took comfort knowing that it was for his long-term health and wellness. Losing him, like this, now – it just hurts,” Mercado said.
