Looking for churches for your next Marian pilgrimage to celebrate the Holy Rosary month of October? We’ve got you covered.

Here’s a list of heritage churches you can visit in Pangasinan.

1. Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag (1605)

Dubbed as the “Pilgrim Center of Northern Philippines,” the Shrine Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag is one of the most widely visited Roman Catholic Pilgrimage sites in the country. In 2014, it was elevated to a Minor Basilica by Pope Francis, two years after it became an affiliate of the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome.

2. Co-Cathedral of the Epiphany of the Lord in Lingayen

It was first called The Three Kings (Los Tres Reyes) before it became more popularly known as Lingayen Church. Founded in 1587, it is considered as one of the oldest churches in Pangasinan and became one of the best edifices in northern Luzon for its exceptional architecture.

Famous for its dome designed by Father Miguel Aparicio and its “Oriental Pagoda-like bell tower," the church also has the Saint John the Evangelist as its “twin cathedral,” which is now the seat of the archdiocese.

3. Our Lady of the Purification Parish Church in Binmaley (1627)

This church has one of the three biggest bells in the country, weighing 4,130 pounds. A restoration underwent in the century-old dome of Our Lady of the Purification Parish Church in order to preserve its Baroque heritage.

4. Sanctuario de San Juan Evangelista

Granted by the Papal Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls as the “Special Bond of Spiritual Affinity” in 2011, the restored old Dagupan Cathedral is now a special “sanctuary” promoting the devotion to Saint John the Evangelist and a shrine for the daily adoration and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

It is said to be the church where Jose Rizal’s former girlfriend, Leonor Rivera, wed English railroad engineer Henry Kipping in 1890.

5. Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish Church in Mangaldan (1600)

With its side retablos and ambo renovated and blessed last March, the modern church of Saint Thomas Aquinas is surely a church to visit. Back in 1600, it had a beautiful tower made of bricks while a towering belfry was built in the 1940s.

Visiting all of these five heritage churches in Pangasinan to celebrate the Holy Rosary month of October is now possible with Green Faith Travels, which is holding a Marian pilgrimage of these churches on October 21.

Pilgrims will also visit Urduja House (governor’s residence), Provincial Capitol, Sison Auditorium and Lingayen beach.

“During this Year of the Parish, we join the church in transforming the parish as a communion of communities as we create our own community of pilgrims through spiritual journeys while renewing our devotion to the Holy Rosary and imploring the help and guidance of our Blessed Mother,” said Green Faith Travels’ facilitator Edwin Galvez.

The P3,500 fee is inclusive of round-trip transportations, buffet meals and other treats.
