MANILA – Months after introducing her baby to the public for the first time, Liz Uy finally opened up about her journey to motherhood.

In an interview published in The Philippine Star over the weekend, the celebrity stylist admitted that her pregnancy was unexpected.

“I cried. I wasn’t ready,” she said.

The father of Uy’s child was identified as Raymond Racaza, described in the article as a businessman “who was then already estranged from his wife, and who has since been annulled.”

It has been long rumored that Uy and Racaza are in a relationship, which many considered controversial because the latter was a married man with a child of his own.

“At 35 ang kapal ng mukha ko not to be ready, di ba? But I wasn’t,” Uy said of her pregnancy. “I was being selfish. I was just thinking of my career.”

It was Uy’s close friend, actress Isabelle Daza, who introduced her to Racaza back in May 2016.

Months later – on February 5, 2017 – she found out she and the businessman are expecting a child.

They welcomed Xavier – nicknamed Xavi – on September 20, 2017 in the United States.

As a first-time mother, Uy was initially scared to take care of her baby.

“But if not me, who was going to do it? Lalong ayaw ko siya ipahawak sa strangers… If he was new to me, then all the more I was new to him,” she said.

Racaza, for his part, said the arrival of Xavi in their lives brought out Uy’s best self. “She’s a very hands-on mom, especially with the round-the-clock feeding,” he said. “Despite her other obligations, she would always rush home to be with our son.”

“She is very down-to-earth and has no sense of entitlement. Everything she has accomplished was done through hard work.”
