MANILA – As expected, model and Ormoc Rep. Lucy Torres turned heads during President Rodrigo Duterte’s first State of the Nation Address early this week.

Many people praised not only Torres’ beauty and youthful look, but also her sense of style.

Unknown to many, she wore an old barong Tagalog of her husband, actor Richard Gomez.

Torres made the statement in an Instagram post on Tuesday, saying that she asked local designer Randy Ortiz to alter the barong for a better fit.

“Randy simply downsized and added a high lace collar. Wore this tucked into a slim black skirt. Thank you, Honey!” she wrote, referring to Gomez. “You did not even know I raided your barong closet last week.”

Torres’ Instagram followers left comments on her post, praising the model-politician for being creative and resourceful.

Others, meanwhile, were impressed that Torres can make her husband’s old barong look elegant and glamorous.

Attendees in the 2016 SONA were asked to tone down their sartorial picks and wear simpler business attire.

The move is part of the government’s efforts to place more focus on President Duterte’s message to the Filipino people instead of pomp and pageantry.
