MANILA -- JC de Vera pushed himself to the limits when he participated at this year’s edition of Test of Will, an urban fitness challenge mounted by popular sportswear brand Under Armour.

The “Since I Found You” actor was among the many fitness enthusiasts who took part in an intense four-minute circuit challenge on Sunday consisting of over and under hurdle, deadball squats, kettlebell farmer walks and bear crawls.

“Na-test talaga 'yung will ko, na-push 'yung limits ko. To simplify, I’m tired,” he told ABS-CBN News after the workout routine. “Pero it’s fantastic. I feel great na natapos ko 'yung challenge.”

De Vera admitted he was a bit nervous at first because he is not used to working out with a lot of people watching.

“Back at the gym kasi, we already practiced the routine so 'yung body ko was not surprised with the workout. But siyempre it’s really different when everyone’s watching. You try to do more, you try to challenge yourself more. Unconsciously, you’re pushing yourself too hard na pala. Siyempre ayaw mo mapahiya sa lahat. It’s a good thing also kasi I was able to push myself,” he explained.

Despite his hectic schedule at work, de Vera said he still sees to it that he makes time to hit the gym. He likewise shared his exercise routine.

“I work out normally thrice to four times a week, basta any available day. I do a lot of exercises. I do sports, I play basketball. I box, I run so there’s a lot of cardio involved. There’s a lot of weightlifting for strength and a lot of agility and mobile work outs para mas maging flexible,” he said.

De Vera said its easier for him to cope from stress caused by too much work when he works out.

“Now is a good time to test yourself na hindi ka mag-isa. Everyone is watching you. Time for you na ipakita sa lahat kung ano talaga ang kaya mong gawin. Kasi nga normally, when you’re working out, hindi mo kaya gawin ito. Hindi mo kaya i-push yourself to the limit,” he said.

Started in 2015, Test of Will celebrates endurance, functional fitness and training lifestyle. Now on its third year in the Philippines, the event seeks to encourage not just the athletic ones but all the people to live a healthy lifestyle.

“It was actually made for athletes, regular people, those aspiring to participate in the challenge. If you’ve noticed, it’s inside the mall and not inside the gym so that a lot of people can probably join and enjoy,” said Warren Sy, managing partner of Athletes Pro Group Inc.

Sy also has a message to those who are struggling to keep fit.

“We have a tagline, it’s called ‘We will.’ So basically, you can and we will. Just put focus and what you’re doing and at the end of the day, you will be able to accomplish what you really what to achieve,” he said.
