MANILA -- Not even a pandemic can stop Miss Philippines Earth 2020 as it held a virtual long gown competition on Tuesday.

Streamed live on Facebook, the event was hosted by Miss Philippines Earth 2007 Jeanne Harn and featured a five-member panel of judges.

Candidates were all glammed up in locally designed pieces as they walked on makeshift runways, which ranged from styled events spaces to their very own homes.

As with most web conferences, organizers had to sometimes address video delays and choppy audio. But overall the event was a success, with all candidates given equal exposure to both the judges and nearly 2,000 Facebook viewers.

In the end, delegates from Dubai in UAE, City of Manila, and Melbourne in Australia won the gold, silver, and bronze awards, respectively.

Prior to the long gown show, Miss Philippines Earth mounted online events for its talent contest as well as its "Fitness, Form and Poise" competition.

More Facebook live events are scheduled until June 24 for other Miss Philippines Earth competitions in categories such as beach wear, casual wear, and cultural attire.

Most national pageant organizers have indefinitely postponed their coronation ceremonies and side events, which are typically held in front of an audience, to comply with physical distancing measures amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
