The Philippines mourned with the rest of the world Anthony Bourdain's death on Friday.

Filipinos found a kindred spirit in Bourdain, who like the country he visited on a number of occasions shared a profound love of food.

ABS-CBN News looks back at the times the beloved connoisseur traveled to the Philippines and showed an appreciation for local cuisine.

As seen in the above video, Bourdain said that one of his favorite Filipino dishes was sisig because it's "simple, flavorful, delicious and goes perfectly with beer." He first tried it during a 2008 trip to Cebu with chef Claude Tayag.

In 2015, he was spotted in a local pub enjoying drinks with reporters. This article serves as a recap of that night. The same year, he learned how to cook adobo thanks a local band.

Perhaps his most famous video in the Philippines was this (below) one of him trying out the menu items of Jollibee. He described the chain's spaghetti as "deranged yet strangely alluring," and confessed that he hates mascots.

Last year, when Bourdain made a guest appearance at a food conference, he talked about his "personal connection" with the Philippines. He said: “I’m grateful to be back."

"This is a personal connection for me. My daughter, like so many American children, has been largely raised by Filipinas. Her brother from another mother is a Filipino kid," he said.
