MANILA -- Ibiza Beach Club BGC, which opened last April with much fanfare and celebration, has quickly gained a reputation as a place where good times are a nightly staple, thanks to bands and performances, and that Jacuzzi, of course.

But Ibiza Beach Club is much more than just a after-dark haunt -- it is also available during the day serving delectable food and drinks in a completely different setting.

While evenings in Ibiza Beach Club BGC have a club vibe, the lounge sports a different feeling in the daytime with a soaring ceiling framing windows that showcase a sun-lit cityscape, with white chairs and white tables adding an airy feeling that’s instantly relaxing.

This gives it an atmosphere that’s ideal for those power lunches -- whether it be quick or the drawn-out kind.

Lunch in the club can translate to a three-course executive lunch special starting at P1,000, while those opting to eat early (11 a.m.) or late (1:30 p.m.) can avail of three-course meals starting at only P500. Ala carte dishes are available as well.

If you’re out to impress though, or if you’re wanting to give yourself a treat, then you should ask for their signature Balearic-inspired 15-course grill experience.

First popularized in its sister beach club in Cebu, the Balearic grill is a swanky eat-all-you-can experience featuring a salad bar (with a selection of breads including its famous Pao de Quejo or cheese bread), and unlimited servings of meat and seafood prepared with a Balearic-Asian flavor, courtesy of a marinade with Mediterranean tastes that enhance the smokiness from the grill (like paprika, as well as other wood spices), while the Asian touch adds a hint of sweetness.)

Similar to rodizio-style restaurants in Brazil, meats are brought and cut table-side, and diners can opt to have as much of a particular meat that they desire.

Each plate starts with your choice of carbohydrate (mashed potatoes or rice), with a side of grilled vegetables and corn. Then you pile on the meats.

Meats on offer include delicate filet mignon wrapped in bacon, more hearty meats like Angus ribeye and New Zealand lamb chops, as well as baby back ribs and beef short ribs -- both fall-off-the-bone, and stunningly caramelized.

Ostrich meat is also part of the choices. Tasting something in between chicken and beef, it’s less heavy than the latter, but tasting more intense, more gamey than the former.

Less adventurous taste-buds though can’t go wrong with Ibiza Beach Club BGC’s grilled boneless chicken thighs with skin flecked with black charred bits, hiding juicy smoky meat. Both kid- and adult-friendly.

Grilled seafood lovers, meanwhile, can say hallelujah to a parade of beautiful fire-kissed seafood from gigantic tiger prawns to salmon and flaky parrot fish -- to be swirled with sauces available tableside from hummus, or the yogurt-based tzatziki to name some.

An exception to the “grill” part of the Balearic grill concept is the crispy pork belly which more than delivers in the “crispy” promise with one getting that unmistakable crackle as you bite into the skin.

Taste all the meats, and go back and have some more of your favorites, BUT you must end your Balearic grill experience with their grilled Queen Pina (grilled pineapple). If you’ve never tasted this tropical fruit grilled, you’re in for a treat! With juices running down and gushing at each bite -- tasting of pineapple, caramel, and smoke, it’s a less sugary option that can cut some of the heaviness from all that meat. And thanks to this all-you-can-eat set-up, you can get as much as you can of this grilled wonder.

In the mood for sweeter fare? Order the much-hyped Movenpick Hotel ice creams, imported and specially made for the brand, they were all they were promised and more!

Rich, creamy, loaded with flavor whether it be strawberry, chocolate, or coffee, each bite is a revelation of how ice cream is supposed to be. Perfect for any day in Manila—hot or otherwise.

So, have the Balearic grill lunch in Ibiza Beach Club BGC, sit back in between courses, order a lunchtime cocktail or two (the Whisky Sour is smooth and sweet), and relax in the middle of the city in the middle of the day.

Or choose to do this at night. Either way, it’s what Ibiza Beach Club BGC is all about.
