MANILA -- Shang Palace, the Chinese restaurant of the Makati Shangri-La Hotel known for its traditional Cantonese food, is finally adding dim sum to its dinner menu.

Ever since Shang Palace opened more than 20 years ago, guests have enjoyed its dim sum fresh off the steamer but up until now, it has only served dim sum for lunch.

The restaurant decided to serve these bite-sized specialties for dinner to address new eating trends.

“People want to eat something light during dinner,” noted Makati Shangri-La's assistant F&B director Andrew Zarzosa, adding that dim sum is perfect for those craving for Chinese food that’s not too heavy yet filling.

Shang Palace has about 40 choices in its dim sum menu from the kitchen of its chef, Leung Ka Fai. From favorites like steamed pork dumplings with fish roe (siomai) and steamed crystal skin dumplings (hakaw), to exotic delicacies such as beef stomach with curry, there is something for everybody.

Baked dim sum, like Shang Palace’s version of baked barbecue pork pie, and deep-fried goodies including the taro puff with scallops, radish cake, and spring rolls are meals unto themselves and can satisfy the heftiest of appetites.

Shang Palace diners can enjoy dim sum for dinner only from Mondays to Wednesdays until July 31, 2017 but this may be extended depending on the demand.
