Miss Philippines Earth 2020 itutuloy, iba pang beauty pageant indefinitely postponed

MAYNILA -- Tiniyak ng organizer ng Miss Philippines Earth na tuloy ang pagdaos ng beauty pageant sa Mayo 24 sa online at sa broadcast sa pamamagitan ng ABS-CBN.

Ito’y sa gitna ng pag-urong ng aktibidad ng maraming pageant dahil sa COVID-19 pandemic. Kabilang na dito ang Miss Universe Philippines, Binibining Pilipinas at Mutya Pilipinas.

“If we cannot converge, there is always the internet and broadcast TV will always be there," giit ng organizer ng Miss Earth Philippines na si Lorraine Schuck.

Ito ang 20th year ng local pageant na isinusulong ang pangangalaga ng kalikasan sa mga lokal at international platform.

“This is the time when we’re more needed for awareness. 'Di ko maatim na hindi ituloy 'yung advocacy to inspire and move people about the protection of our environment. Look at the doctors and other frontliners, despite the lockdown, trabaho pa rin, it’s their calling. Dapat ganun din kami!” ani Schuck.

Ayon kay Schuck, bukod sa tradisyunal na evening gown at swimwear format, iha-highlight ng Miss Philippines Earth pageant ang rampa ng beauties na nakasombrero at face mask, gayundin ang pagsuot nila ng “fashionable” at matibay na protective personal gear o PPEs.

Tatlumpu’t siyam na candidates mula sa iba’t ibang rehiyon at Filipino communities ang magtatagisan sa taong ito.

Kabilang sa mga early favorites ang dating Bb. Pilipinas candidates na sina Marie Sherry Anne Tormes ng Atimonan, Quezon at Patrixia Shirley Santos ng Daraga, Albay. Maugong din sina Roxie Baeyens ng Baguio City, Gianna Llanes ng Mandaluyong City, at Illysa Mendoza ng Filipino community sa Melboure, Australia.

Samantala, pinag-uusapan pa ng kanila-kanilang organizer kung kailan at paano itatanghal ang Bb. Pilipinas, Miss Universe Philippines at Mutya Pilipinas pageant sa harap ng wala pa ring tiyak na guidelines sa pagdaos ng malalaking shows sa mga public venue.
