MANILA – For years, McDonald’s has been successful in adjusting to local tastes with items such as sweet spaghetti, which is unique to the Philippines.
From Australia to Saudi Arabia, here are 10 interesting and unusual menu items found in McDonald’s branches across the globe.
1. GOURMET ANGUS TRUFFLE & CHEESE (AUSTRALIA)
In Australia, McDonald’s goes gourmet with sandwiches such as this one, which contains Angus beef, rasher bacon, shaved parmesan, spinach leaves and “a hint of truffle.”
2. YAKKI BURGER (JAPAN)
Launched in Japan last February, the Yakki burger contains pork patty, lettuce, sliced onion and a sauce flavored with ginger and soy. McDonald’s in Japan has served zanier items over the years, from tofu nuggets to milk chocolate-covered fries.
3. VEG MAHARAJA MAC (INDIA)
Described as a “vegetarian’s dream come true,” India’s answer to Big Mac consists of two cheese and corn patties, jalapenos, shredded onion, cheddar cheese, lettuce and a rich cocktail sauce.
4. WACKO GUACO (BELGIUM)
This sandwich promises to give a “party to your taste buds” with its combination of hot and juicy chicken fillet and fresh guacamole.
5. CHILI CHEESE TOPS (FINLAND)
This side dish in Finland is filled with spicy chili and melted cheese.
6. TWISTY PASTA (HONG KONG)

8. SOPA A LAVRADOR (PORTUGAL)
Craving for soup? McDonald’s Portugal serves Sopa a Lavrador, which contains red beans, ham, pasta, garlic, onion and olive oil. Other soup variants here include Caldo Verde (kale, potatoes, chorizo), Creme de Legumes and Creme de Ervilhas (peas).

10. HALLOUMI MUFFIN (SAUDI ARABIA)
