MANILA – Two Negrense artists have collaborated to create a massive “unbowed carabao” sculpture which will be unveiled in Bacolod this weekend.

Called “Bao,” the project by sculptor Paeng Paderna and mosaic artist Lisa de Leon-Zayco is made of concrete, brass, and tesserae, and serves as a tribute to the spirit of Visayan artists.

Its upright head is said to celebrate triumph over trials, with the mosaic tesserae pieced together showing diverse stories to weave one heritage.

Supported by the Angelica Berrie Foundation, “Bao” will be unveiled at the Negros Museum grounds in a private event on April 28.

It will be opened to the public on April 29, followed by a back-to-back exhibition featuring both Paderna and Leon-Zayco.
