MISAMIS ORIENTAL - More than 80,000 devotees are expected to flock to Barangay Ulaliman in El Salvador City during the feast of the Divine Mercy on Sunday.

Home of the famous 50-foot tall statue of the Divine Mercy, the shrine has been a top destination for pilgrims all over the country.

Authorities are beefing up security measures as pilgrims arrive at the shrine days before the feast.

An x-ray machine has been set up to check the baggage of the pilgrims upon entry. Frisking is also implemented before devotees enter the shrine's vicinity.

The Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines together with civilian volunteers are expected to be visible in the area starting Friday night.

Devotees usually stay overnight in the shrine Saturday night for the vigil that will be followed by a dawn procession and a mass.
