MANILA - It was in February 2019 when Dayanara Torres revealed that she had been diagnosed with skin cancer.

More than a year later, the former Miss Universe titleholder shared that she is finally done with her cancer treatment.

Torres made the announcement while speaking to Pops Fernandez while they were doing an Instagram Live broadcast on Saturday.

“For a year, I’ve been battling cancer. It was found last year. It was out of the blue. I was working. I was being a judge on a show which is like ‘Dancing with the Stars’ in Spanish, flying every week at the beginning of the year. The next morning, I found out it was cancer,” she recalled.

"I started treatment for a year and I thank the Lord and everyone for all the prayers. It’s amazing the amount of love and support that I received. Last week, on Monday, I had my last test to just check if there’s anything kinda like leftover hanging around, and everything was negative,” she said.

Torres said all that’s left for her to do is have follow up check-ups every three months for the next two years just to make sure that the cancer would not recur.

Aside from updating her followers about her health condition, Torres also shared her plans of going back to the Philippines as soon as the coronavirus pandemic is over.

“I would love to. The funny thing is right now, nobody knows what’s going on in the world. I am blessed that my oldest son who lives in New York, he was lucky enough that him and his girlfriend were able to leave early. So they are here. The three of us are together. I am blessed that way,” she said.

“At the same time, it kinda makes you realize that all this time, I could have flown to the Philippines, I could have been there, I could have enjoyed everything that I wanted to do and never did. Now we are stuck in a limbo. We don’t know what’s going to happen. As soon as this is over, I definitely need to go back. I miss everybody,” she added.

Saying she has a lot of great memories in the Philippines, Torres said she already considers the country her second home.

But while the whole world is still battling the COVID-19, Torres is hoping everyone could see the silver lining in this situation.

“I just know deep in my heart that this is going to pass. In the meantime, I know we are scared but we need to be grateful and we need to be thankful… This is a moment to reach out, connect. At least we have this technology that is helping us until we can actually be able to embrace for real. It’s gonna happen,” she said.
